The Office is created in 1981 under the leadership of Mr. Romeo Pareño as the first Municipal Agricultural Officer of Malaybalay detailed and located before at the Provincial Agriculture Office of Bukidnon. In 1983, the municipal agriculture office was transferred at the Municipal Hall of Malaybalay. In 1985, Mr. Eriberto Bangis was the Municipal Agricultural Officer until 1990. In 1991, Republic Act No. 7160 known as The Local Government Code of the Philippines was also approved. It was then implemented in 1993 wherein the agricultural extension workers and some of the properties of the National Government Agencies (NGAs) all over the country were devolved to the Local Government Units (LGUs). One of the objectives of the devolution is to equip the manpower requirement to deliver the basic services promptly and appropriately to the clientele. In 1991, Mr. Andrew T. Bergado was the Municipal Agricultural Officer. He became also the 1st City Agriculturist since Malaybalay was created into a component City on February 11, 1998 by virtue of Republic Act 8490. In year 2009, the City Agriculture Office implemented its new organizational structure pursuant to City Ordinance 624 otherwise known as the reorganization of Malaybalay City.
