Highlight 2021
1.MALAYBALAY AGRICULTURAL BREEDING CENTER
The year’s unvaried routine of 2021 made for a productive run for the breeding center. The Artificial Insemination for Large Ruminants made 439 heads of Inseminated cattle and 606 heads of inseminated swine.
The processing of Swine Semen proved adequate for the growing request for artificial Insemination services for swine. The modest laboratory is able to provide the growing demand for processed semen. Experimentation with packaging and semen mediums is an integral part of the laboratory operation. The production of high quality semen with modest equipment and budget is an operational imperative.
The Center is staffed with 12 personnel with workers hovering from the Center and regular work for the City Veterinary Office. Developing and testing functions is with regular attention for the preparation of the coming modern facility. Calving Success for large ruminants is 20 percent and rising as calvings are being reported and confirmed. 189 heads of swine were dispersed from selected and screened litters from artificially inseminated sows.
The year’s culminating development is the Training and Development of Clifford Sario by the National Dairy Authority as the designated A.I.technician for Dairy Cattle. Sexing Semen from the NDA and dairy A.I. technician will soon be available for Malaybalay dairy cattle.
2.VEHICLE DISINFECTION AT THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE
One of the activities in the prevention of the entry of the African Swine Fever is the disinfection of vehicles in the slaughterhouse. It is important that all animal transport vehicles must be cleaned and disinfected each and every time pigs are unloaded at slaughterhouses, farms and collection points. The aim of an efficient cleaning and disinfection protocol is to decrease the infection pressure in general. The reduction of bacteria in the immediate surroundings must reduce the opportunity for bacteria to gainaccess to the animals. This protocol was practiced in the Malaybalay City Abattoir was started on September 2021.
